As a practitioner of general dentistry I’d like to give you some sound advice on brushing. Did you know that regular brushing twice a day and flossing is a great way to maintain good oral health care. Poor brushing and flossing techniques are sure to lead to tooth and root decay and eventually tooth loss. It will also lead to gum and periodontal disease and loss of bone density that holds your teeth in place.

Just a quick note – 60% of the population has gingivitis and don’t know it. Did you know that gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease and if left untreated will lead to a more serious condition?
An effective way of brushing your teeth involves using a circular motion to brush a couple of teeth at a time, gradually covering the entire mouth. Place a toothbrush beside your teeth at a 45-degree angle and gently brush teeth in an oval motion.

Brush the front of the teeth, behind the teeth, the tongue and chewing surfaces, and between the teeth. Using a back and forth motion causes the gum surface to recede, or can expose the root surface or make the root surface sore or tender. You will also risk wearing down the gum line.
