It is estimated that over half the adult population suffers from some stage of Gum Disease. If undetected, this can lead to life threatening forms of oral cancer.

Celebrities like Babe Ruth, Sigmund Freud, Jack Klugman, Aaron Spelling, Alan King, Humphrey Bogart, Lana Turner, Eddie Van Halen, Rod Stewart, Bill Blass, Burl Ives, Sammy Davis Jr., John Prine, Jim Thorpe, Mary Wells and George Harrison, all were victims of oral cancer.

Digital Radiographs have 90% less radiation than traditional dental film x-rays. A visual examination of teeth only shows three of the five surfaces of a tooth but we cannot see in between the teeth where most adults get dental decay. (Children tend to get decay on the biting surface of the tooth, while seniors or immune-compromised adults tend to get decay at the root surface of the tooth.

With the digital panorex xray, we can detect bone abnormalities, any growths or tumors in the bone, and also any abnormalities of the jaw joint anatomy, including abnormal joint wear, breakdown and arthritis. We can also see abnormal growth patterns which sometimes occur after accidents.

I have extensive advanced training in cosmetic dentistry. In fact, I even teach anterior and posterior esthetic and cosmetic dentistry to dentists at a teaching institute in Scottsdale! Some patients have very nice smiles, but come to me looking for perfection. Other patients are very satisfied with their smile, and only want to restore the function of their teeth. But just about every patient wants to know what they can do to improve “the look” of their smile, so we include a cosmetic consultation with our exam.

More and more now, physicians and dentists are working together! The link between heart disease and gum disease is all over the news. We are now working with physicians, who refer patients to have their gum disease treated, as they treat their heart and cardiovascular problems. So we screen and consult for gum disease too.
